Monitoring

Server health and resource usage at a glance

Monitor every server in your fleet with real-time CPU, memory, disk, and load metrics. Track per-tenant resource consumption with automated quota warnings and enforcement — all collected through the SpeedyCTL agent.

Server Health

Real-time server metrics

CPU utilization

Per-server CPU usage percentage is sampled at regular intervals. Historical data is stored in the server_stats table for charting and trend analysis.

Memory usage

Memory consumption is tracked as a percentage of total RAM. Combined with swap usage data from the server to give a complete picture of memory pressure.

Disk utilization

Disk usage percentage is monitored per server. When disk usage approaches capacity, alerts can be triggered before storage exhaustion impacts services.

Load average

The 1-minute load average is collected with each sample. Load trends help identify overcommitted servers before they become unresponsive.

Website count

The number of active websites per server is tracked alongside resource metrics. Correlate website count with resource usage to plan capacity.

Mailbox count

Active mailbox count per server is included in each sample. Track mail storage growth and plan Dovecot storage accordingly.

Usage Tracking

Per-tenant resource consumption

Disk usage per tenant

The panel periodically pulls hosting.usage_report from every active server. Disk consumption is aggregated per tenant and stored in usage_records for the current billing period.

Monthly traffic tracking

Monthly bandwidth consumption is tracked per tenant. Usage records store the total for the current period (YYYY-MM). Traffic is measured across all websites belonging to the tenant.

Quota warning at 80%

When a tenant reaches 80% of their disk or traffic quota, the panel sends a warning email automatically. Warnings are sent once per calendar month to avoid notification fatigue.

Automatic suspension

When the monthly traffic quota is exhausted and overselling is not allowed, all active websites of the tenant are suspended automatically. Sites are reactivated when the new month starts or the quota is raised.

Kernel-enforced disk quotas

Disk quotas are enforced by the kernel using project quotas via hosting.set_quota. The usage service measures and warns, but the kernel prevents tenants from exceeding their disk allocation.

Oversell control

Each package defines whether overselling is allowed. When disabled, quota enforcement is strict. This can be overridden per tenant for flexible account management.

Data Collection

How monitoring data is collected

SpeedyCTL agent

Server metrics are collected by the SpeedyCTL agent running on each server. The panel requests data through signed HMAC-SHA256 requests — the same privilege-separated architecture used for all provisioning.

Point-in-time samples

Each monitoring sample is a point-in-time snapshot stored in server_stats. Samples include timestamp, CPU, memory, disk, load, website count, and mailbox count.

Historical charting

The monitor dashboard displays historical charts from the server_stats table. Configurable retention (default 288 samples) controls how much history is kept.

Health checks

A cheap reachability check is available for each server node. The panel can verify that the SpeedyCTL agent is responsive before attempting provisioning operations.

Benefits

Why monitoring matters

Capacity planning

See which servers are approaching capacity before they become problems. Plan resource allocation based on actual usage trends.

Quota fairness

Per-tenant usage tracking ensures fair resource distribution. Customers on limited packages cannot consume more than their allocation.

Automated enforcement

No manual intervention needed. Quotas are enforced by the kernel, warnings are sent automatically, and suspension happens when limits are reached.

Revenue protection

Usage-based enforcement ensures customers upgrade when they exceed their package. No more silent resource overconsumption.

Proactive alerts

80% threshold warnings give customers time to upgrade or clean up before service impact. Prevents surprise suspensions.

Multi-server visibility

Monitor every server in your fleet from a single dashboard. Compare resource usage across servers to balance load.
